Sharedrobes is, at its core, an open community.


POLICY BRIEF & PURPOSE


Our non-discrimination policy explains how we prevent discrimination and protect all our staff and members from offensive and harmful behaviours. Sharedrobes does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status or sexual orientation, in any of its activities or operations. This policy supports our overall commitment to create a safe, inclusive and respectful community for our staff and members.

Sharedrobes complies with all non-discrimination laws, including the Irish Equal Status Acts 2000–2015 which outlaw discrimination outside the workplace, in particular in the provision of goods and services, selling renting or leasing property.

 

POLICY ELEMENTS


Discrimination is defined as less favourable treatment. A person is said to be discriminated against if they are treated less favourably than another is, has been or would be treated in a comparable situation on any of the grounds mentioned above. To establish direct discrimination, a direct comparison must be made, for example, in the case of disability discrimination the comparison must be between a person who has a disability and another who has not, or between persons with different disabilities.

Indirect discrimination occurs when practices or policies that do not appear to discriminate against one group more than another actually have a discriminatory impact. It can also happen where a requirement that may appear non-discriminatory.

 

INCLUSION & RESPECT


We are all committed to doing everything we can to help eliminate all forms of unlawful bias, discrimination, and intolerance from our platform. We want to promote a culture within the Sharedrobes community—Sharers, Renters, Partners and people just considering whether to use our platform—that goes above and beyond mere compliance. To that end, all of us, Sharedrobes employees, Sharers, Renters and Partners alike, agree to read and act in accordance with this policy to strengthen our community and realise our mission of ensuring that everyone can feel welcome and respected, anywhere.

  • Inclusion – We welcome members of all backgrounds with open minds. Joining Sharedrobes, as a Sharer, Renter or Partner, means becoming part of a community of inclusion. Bias, prejudice, racism, and hatred have no place on our platform or in our community. While members are required to follow all applicable laws that prohibit discrimination based on such factors as race, religion, national origin, and others mentioned in this policy, we commit to do more than comply with the minimum requirements established by law.

  • Respect – We are respectful of each other in our interactions and encounters. Sharedrobes appreciates that local laws and cultural norms vary around the world and expects Sharers, Renters and Partners to abide by local laws, and to engage with each other respectfully, even when views may not reflect their beliefs or upbringings. Sharedrobes’s members bring to our community an incredible diversity of background experiences, beliefs, and customs. By connecting people from different backgrounds, Sharedrobes fosters greater understanding and appreciation for the common characteristics shared by all human beings and undermines prejudice rooted in misconception, misinformation, or misunderstanding.


When members are turned down. Sharers and Partners should keep in mind that no one likes to be turned down. While a Sharer or Partner may have, and articulate, lawful and legitimate reasons for turning down a potential member, it may cause that member of our community to feel unwelcome or excluded. Sharers and Partners should make every effort to be welcoming to members of all backgrounds. Sharers and Partners who demonstrate a pattern of rejecting members from a protected class (even while articulating legitimate reasons), undermine the strength of our community by making potential members feel unwelcome, and Sharedrobes may suspend Sharers and Partners who have demonstrated such a pattern from the Sharedrobes platform.

 

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A MEMBER DOES NOT COMPLY WITH OUR POLICIES IN THIS AREA?


If a particular listing contains language contrary to this nondiscrimination policy, the Sharer or Partner will be asked to remove the language and affirm his or her understanding and intent to comply with this policy and its underlying principles. Sharedrobes may also, in its discretion, take steps up to and including suspending the Sharer or Partner from the Sharedrobes platform.

If the Sharer or Partner improperly rejects members on the basis of a protected class or uses language demonstrating that his or her actions were motivated by factors prohibited by this policy, Sharedrobes will take steps to enforce this policy, up to and including suspending the Sharer or Partner from the platform.

As the Sharedrobes community grows, we will continue to ensure that Sharedrobes’ policies and practices align with our most important goal: To ensure that Renters, Sharers and Partners feel welcome and respected in all of their interactions using the Sharedrobes platform. The public, our community, and we ourselves, expect no less than this.
